Thread: Vapor lock 4.3

    Default Vapor lock 4.3

I have been troubleshooting my own vapor lock issue and saw this thread here: http://forums.iboats.com/mercruiser-i-o-inboard-engines-outdrives/vapor-lock-coil-issue-462782.html. Mine is on a carbuerated 4.3 merc though. Can a fuel cooler be installed on my engine do you know? I have the same problem as you BIGALF, starts fine the first start of the day, but after running a while and stopping, it cranks and cranks. Yesterday I had to take the flame arrestor off and open the butterfly to get it going.

I have the same problem. It apears that most people correct this by rebuilding the carbs, as they often drip into the manifold when warm... causing it to flood.

After you shut it down, check to see if fuel is dripping out of the carb. Im gonna do this with mine this weekend.

I'll have to wait til next week, I was out today and beached at our island to do some mowing. I raised up the engine compartment hood to let it air out to avoid the vapor lock and heard water trickling. Went back to launch and pulled out. Have a tear in my shift bellows and can't get it in until Friday. Told the marina to change all three while there at it. 300 for one or 500 for all three.

I've seen a lot of theories on this vapor lock deal and wonder if a carb spacer makes the most sense.
