Which size Oil Drain Kit do I need? 1997 MerCruiser 5.7 Alpha One

I am wanting to buy a oil drain kit for my 5.7, MerCruiser. The type where the fitting goes in, in place of the oil pan bolt, and connects to a hose, that you can run out the plug hole to drain the oil. Does anyone know what size the oil pan bolt is on this engine? Thank you in advance for the help!

Is installing this drain kit fairly easy? Other than the obvious trying to get under the motor. Are you simply replacing the drain plug on the oil pan with a hose? I would think draining the pan vs sucking up the oil through the dipstick would be better. Where do you get the kit? I have a 95' 5.0, 305

I found mine on ebay, don't know how difficult it is installing as I installed mine when I pulled the motor to do a new oil pan...much easier to change the oil with it than sucking it out the dipstick.

Thank You for the responses. The install does look easy, as long as you can reach the bolt on the bottom of the pan. You replace the bolt with a fitting that is attached to a hose and another fitting that you can snake the end through the drain plug on the boat. Once you have the hose outside the boat and a container to drain it into, you take off a plug, and drain the oil. I also like this idea better then pumping the oil up through the dipstick. I will be ordering one for my boat now. They have a couple on the marine store on this site, both of those being SAE threads. If you need the metric threads, they are available on ********.com, amazon.com, and I am sure your local marina can also get them for you. Thanks again for your help Don S and Bond-O

It's as easy as removing the drain plug.

Mercruiser indicates that it makes the oil easy to change because you can fish the hose out through your drain plug and then let the oil drain via gravity.

The hose I bought from ******** was too big and wouldn't go through the hole.

I clamped the other end of my drain hose to the port riser.

This way I can hook up my Moeller vac pump and suck it up through the hose. It actually is easier that way since you can pump the handle about 15 times and change the filter while the oil is being sucked up through the hose. It only takes 5 min or so hot or cold. Since the hose is larger diameter than the tube you would stuff down through the dipstick-tube, it sucks the oil through it much faster.....

It's also a LOT faster than letting it drain via gravity.....AND you also don't have to stand on your head trying to fish the oily hose through the transom drain!

It was around $30+ shipping. You have to specify the correct thread pitch/size. I did and they sent me the wrong one so they sent me another one free of charge. (now I have a spare.......wrong size though!!)

You do know that it's not necessary to install a drain hose if all you want to do is suck the oil out of the pan. The aftermarket drain hoses will not fit through the boats drain plug if that is what you are wanting. Even if it did, that method didn't work very well. Even if you warmed the engine oil, it was still a very slow process draining through that hose.
If all you want to do is drain the oil, just stick a pump on the dipstick tube, it's designed for that. No tube inside it, just attach to the hose treads on the dipstick tube, and use a pump.

It was the one that fit the 3.0L pan. So I offered it to a neighbor that has one.....

Here's what mine looks like clamped to the port riser....it has a brass cap on the end.

Oil filter is to the left, PS filter is below.
