    Default shaft log packing

I am working on a 1973 Trojan with chrysler engines. Can anybody tell me the size of the packing that is in the shaft log? and what kind do I use to repack them? I was told that what is in there now is FLAX Packing. Does that sound right?

Hey Eric, welcome aboard! I moved this over to the inboard engine section to get you some more focused help. Flax does sound right though . . .

As far as the size, maybe try a Trojan forum. Otherwise just measure the gap between A and B. Look here:

Yeah, flax was originally used, and is appropriate to use again if you want.
BUT...... current technology is producing a better alternative- GFO packing. Virtually dry bilges when properly adjusted.
Google it to find the distributor (e-marine).
