Mercruiser repair manual circa 1976?

I know this has been discussed before but 'search' is not what it used to be.

Will Clymer or Seloc do? I've checked various sources and that seems to be all I come up with.

And BTW, how exactly is a 1976 888 package outdrive refered to.

I hear ya.....I finally bit the bullet. $184 for service and parts manuals. I couldn't find #3 & #4 anywhere else. I did find them today on outdriveshop.com but they were $10 higher there.

Boom, look on ebay....
You need manual #1 & (or) #2.....
They turn up on ebay now & then, way cheaper.....
I picked them both up for $20.00!

Boom, I just found a #4 in a PDF on cd-rom on ebay for $9.95 + $2 S&H but saw no #1 or #2 or #3

Where exactly are you looking Sker? I did a search in boat parts for Mercruiser manuals and did not come up with that.

What is a #4 manual and for that matter what are #'s 1 & 2?

Yeah Haut, I love those little Ferds! My friend whom I have been helping has an identical Beachcraft that is 2 years newer, 1978. It has the Chev 305 in it (898). That's only appropriate cause he's a Chebby Guy.

Interesting that the gear ratios are 1:50 for the Ford and 1:65 for the Chev. The drives otherwise look the same. What are those anyway? Pre-Alpha's?

#4 manual is for the following Transom Assemblies
MCM 120 / 140 / 165 / 470 / 485 / 898 / 228 / 260
#3 is for all motors 1978-82 I believe.

Don said you needed #1 & #2 So they are for the earliest drives and your motor.

I just went to ebay main page and typed mercruiser service manual in the search.
