    Default Mercruiser 888/ Ford 302

    Anyone got any ideas on these engines?? basically i am looking for what the best prop for an 18ft glassmaster bowrider
    What is considered normal RPMs ?
    What would redline be?

    Trimmed right, i can do 40 (per GPS) @ 2800-3000 rpms

    any tips, tricks, details would be appreciated

    you need to get a portable tach and check your numbers again. Something is wrong. a guess is the boat will run a bit over 40 but that will be at 4400 or so rpm. check the tach and post the numbers and your prop size.

    I don't remember offhand on the 302, but it should be somewhere between 4200-4400rpms at WOT. You either have an incorrect tach, or are overpropped. I would bet on the incorrect tach though, as 40mph should be pretty close to the top end speed with a 5.0L and an 18ft-3K lbs boat.

    the 888 wot spec is 3800-4200

    generally, 1'' of prop pitch change is worth 200 rpm.

    i have a quicksilver SS 19p.... maybe too much prop?

    dunno, have you verified what wot rpms you are putting out as previously suggested??
