Default Mercruiser 470 steering linkage question

I just bought a 1981 Kayot Regency K170 deck boat. It has a Mercruiser 470 in it.
It has about a 1/4 turn steering slop in each direction.
I found that it has 2 small cables that connect the main steering shaft to a sliding block. Both cables are broken.
    I have attached a picture.
I can't seem to find any information on this steering set-up.
Is anyone familiar with this set-up? Does anyone know where I can get the replacement cables?

    Thanks

Never, ever seen that before. Those 2 cables are too small for steering purposes. This is what it should look like

    Thanks,
I had never seen anything like it either.
The cables look like bicycle hand brake cables.

Does the steering wheel have a grooved 'drum'...which the cable(s) wrap around?

Those were used on very low HP outboards from the 50`s never on a I/O application

It has a push/pull morse type cable from the helm back to the motor.
These small cables are just an intermediate link between the rod that the morse cable hooks onto and the motor.

They are only about 1-1/2" long.
