    Default Distributor/Ignition Question - 78 Mercruiser 898

After some reading, I'd like folks advice. I was thinking that I would upgrade to the Pertronics electronic ignition...my logic was that surely in the 30+ years since my engine was built, there have been improvements.

My project thread is in my sig, but I'm having the original 305 rebuilt, and thought that this would be an improvement.

Based on several postings, it would seem it may not be worth the money?

So, I'm confused...if its not going to provide additional reliability, maybe its not worth the money. I have the stock one still...so maybe new points & cap, with plug wires, etc is the better option?

    TIA!

Yeah, I've decided to stick with the stock 305 engine. The boat was shipped with the 305, and I'm going to stick with that.

Thanks for the tip on the distributor, I'll look for one!
