302 mercruiser/alpha 1 ford bogging

ok were to start? ser#4523798 same has a new rebuilt engine. I took off the rodchester 2bbl and put on a high rise edlebrock maniflow and edlebrock marine 4bbl 600cfm
with a Holley electric fuel pump/says for marine use.. put out 6psi.. but when I try to go over 3500rpm's it starts to bogg down and will go slower/back off trottle and it goes faster until I reach bog point../ #1 will the water filter that was on the boat slow down the fuel pump enough to bogg it.. I have not got a fuel preasure gauge. it actually is getting better MPG that it did before/ or fuel seems to last longer / it will idle just fine and excelerate fine until it reaches that bog point??? I hope somone else knows something about this edelbrock 4bbl marine carb, oh I did put an electronic distributor (mallory marine) on it also the timing is set at 10 deg BTDC maybe 5 would work better?
could a flame arrester slow up air? the carb did have a place for a pcv valve I plugged it up same is next to fuel inlet/ anyone got any ideas??

Yes you need a flame arrester that is rated at least as much CFM as your carb, ideally more.
If the float drop setting isn't low enough you wont get enough fuel into the carb. I had a newly factory rebuilt one that came to me wrong one time. The adjustment procedure is in your manual and pretty simple.

jesse you mean the one where you bend the float handles to give it more fuel??

Make sure all your fuel line connections are good. Could be sucking air. You've had the system apart. Don't ask me how I know.

Check EVERYTHING, all the way to the tank. And make sure you have the right clamps. Sounds obvious but has to be said.

Yes take the top of the carb off and check how low the float is from the bottom of the carbs top. I can't remember the proper measurement rite now. Bend the tab to adjust.
