    Default 3.0 OMC 140-HP

Hello, I'm here again to ask questions from you guys. I have 1979 OMC 3.0-140-HP with 17"pitchprop. I'm wondering why it takes too long to geton plane with a speed of 2500 rpm. with 2 personson board. I'm new on boating hobby so I need someadvise. Thank you.

Gun it until you get on plane then bring her down to where you want to run it. You can also trim all the way down (if you have power trim) and then trim it up to just before it starts porpoising in the front. I only do this with a heavy 3 person tube and a 3-4 person load in the boat. My 3.0 OMC 1986 cruises best at around 3200 rpm with a 14"dia. x 17" pitch prop with just about any load 2-6 people.

Hi, this is a heavy engine it takes a little longer to get planed out than an outboard . Is the tank full ? Is the engine well tuned ? A lower pitch prop would improve that .

Sound to me like a poorly tuned engine or a very heavy boat.2500 rpms is just barely enough to keep it on plane.
It also is a Stringer drive if its a 1979..no power trim.

How big is your boat? What kind is it (Bowrider, cuddy cabin, etc.) ? How much does it weigh? It could be carrying around some extra water weight in the foam under the deck.
