Default 1976 mercruiser 188hp ford 302 just bought from guy that had it sitting for 6-7 years

    Hello folks.

So I am wondering what I should replace for sure on this thing (starter is currently st the rebuild shop). What is the best way to deal with the oold gas. The unit does have electronic ignition upgrade. Any advice for finding snap covers/camper tops and seats etc, Boat salvage yards in mn ? Boat is a 1976 Sea Ray SRV 200. Any Advice/guidance is welcome.

Well, I'd be doing a full tune-up to include new spark plugs, wires, and filters (fuel, water, oil). The carb will likely need to be pulled and rebuilt. I assume you've turned it over by hand to see if the engine is frozen, right? New accessory belts, and possibly new rubber hoses depending on the shape of the existing ones.

The the wires and distributor were replaced the last season he parked it due to the upgrade made to electronic ignition, they appear to be in decent shape. I have never done a carb removal and rebuild before; however, I agree that it would be a good idea. Is this a difficult thing to do? How about the gas? Whats the best way to get the gas out?
