    Default 1969 mercruiser 120 tilt/trim just clicks

Last week I bought my first boat. It is a 1969 mercruiser with a GM inline 4 rated at 120 horsepower. We took it out the first three days and had a blast, but on the 4th day out we would be going along and the trim would start moving up or down all by itself. I didn't think anything of it, but when we got back to load the boat, when I try to put the trim up to load it, the solenoid just clicks, and going down it is totally unresponsive. I read some of these posts and came to the conclusion that the solenoid was out, but I changed that yesterday and get the same results. Can someone please direct me where to start? If needed I can get the serial number off of the outdrive.

trimming up and down by itself - I would say you have some serious wiring harness issues. Corrosion making a short circuit.

today I took the solenoid off again, and cleaned all connections. Where the wiring harness plugs into the pump( pretty much an all rubber connection) I notice that the female side which is on the pump itself looks a little melted I don't believe this is normal so I am now looking for a wiring harness for this. It is a 3 prong, and all I can find look like they have about 7-10 prongs that are round, not the 3 flat prongs in kind of a triangle pattern. Does anyone know a part number that I need and where I can find one. I am going to take this boat to a mechanics shop tomorrow and see if they can give me an estimate, but I would like to maybe buy parts myself to save a little cash and see if I can replace them myself. thank you
