I haven't started my boat in 11 months. I have about 8 gallons of premix left (10% ethanol pump gas) in the bilge tank without stabilizer. Can I use it? or should I drain it ? Motor is a '87 60hp Johnson. I do have a canister type water separating filter in the fuel line.
My 87 60hp Johnson has never been the easiest thing to tilt up. My assist shock is getting worn and it's getting worse.
I'm wondering if I replace it with a shock for a 60 lb heavier motor( Johnson V-4 ) if I will get more assist in tilting the motor up? I assume I will have to push down on it...
No not a name for an elderly pornstar...... My boat came with a "free" trailer. The trailer over all was ok except for the axle which was badly rusted. I have been afraid to go more than a few miles from home because of the rust and the bow in the axle. I ordered a new drop axle from Pacific...
On my 1987 60hp I had an issue a few days ago with the motor suddenly cutting power at high rpm and stalling at idle speed . I searched this forum and using the factory manual test procedures this morning found low fuel pressure from the VRO. (ignition checked out ok)
I'm weighing whether I...
1987 Johnson 60hp.(4wire vro)
My warning horn doesn't work and I did disconnect the tan wire and ground it to confirm it isn't working. I'm looking at two options. One is to open the Remote control and replace the stock warning horn (PN 0389263 at $70-$80. Everything else works in the remote)...
I had a deal with my wife that I could build a wood boat if I built her a new house first. I built the house and then not long afterward my wife showed me a picture of a skiff on an Ebay charity auction, knowing that I'm a sucker for commercial boats in general and Downeast style in particular...
I was going to convert my 87 60hp to a power tilt/trim. Then I saw a homemade lever on a 70 hp very similar to the Garelick version that I really like better, just flip up an arm and then you have leverage to tilt the motor up from inside the boat.
Problem on my boat is the gas shock is worn...
I need to rebuild the carbs on my 87 60hp. The manual says to remove the lead plugs (# 304201) for cleaning. I have never heard of this. What is your experience? Is it necessary to remove them?
I am restoring an old lobster skiff. I have the motor(60hp 3 cyl) off the boat and mounted on a stand. I need to rebuild the carbs and do some other maintenance. I would like to test run it on the stand without the control box before putting it back on the boat . Other than a starter switch...
