    Boat on blocks, paint question

OK, I got my boat off the trailer and onto blocks, see pics below. I am stripping the nasty anti-fouling paint on the bottom. When I have to move the keel blocks to paint those areas how hard is it to blend in the new paint? I want to use Interlux paints. Does it blend into previously painted...

    Trailer rim repair

I have 40 year old rims with the spring clips that hold the moon hubcaps for my Holsclaw trailer. I bought new tires yesterday and one of the rims' valve hole is too corroded to hold pressure with the new valve. I could weld a washer to the inside of the rim and that would fix it. Then I thought...

    Fairing fillers

Has anyone used West System 407 or 410 fillers? I began stripping off the anti-fouling paint that is on the below waterline part of my hull. There are zillions of scratches, some deep and into the fiberglass, in the gelcoat. And the gelcoat is very cracked/crazed like the look of a shattered...

    Boatyard liability

I am going to paint my boat one way or another. I thought about getting a local boatyard to put it up on stands for me so I could have more room to work. I have a small urban yard that I could use but I thought also if I can get it hauled somewhere maybe I can pay someone else to do it for me :D...

I have a Yamaha 25 hp, approx 1992, with a bad prop. What pitch is best for a small pontoon boat? Thanks!

    12 x 6.00 tires

My Holsclaw trailer tires were originally 12x6.00 bias ply and I can't find them any place. I guess they are now obsolete? It is a single axle trailer. If I get the 5.30 will it be the same diameter tire and just a bit less in cross section? I haven't checked with antique tire companies because...

    Lower dyna-float mount replacement

How hard is it to replace the lower drive shaft housing mounts without removing the housing? To remove it requires removing the power head and I don't want to deal with that right now. The trim cover and mount retainer can be taken off easily bit I don't know if there is clearance to slide the...

    Transom repairs

Here are some pics of my ongoing transom repair. When I took the aluminum cap off I drilled two 1" test holes with a spade bit to see if there was rot in the wood. It turns out only the top 1/4" was water damaged. The pics show the wooden plug and 3M 5200 used to fill the holes. I ground down...

    Which side for kicker motor

On which side of the main outboard is a kicker/trolling outboard motor usually placed? I am looking for a period Merc 9.9 for my boat so I can troll around the river inlets. I was thinking it might be better to put it opposite the helm side for weight balance?

    Ready for a new deck

I finished cutting out the rotten floor. Used a Dremel tool with 1-1/8" reinforced cut off wheel. Cuts thru like a hot knife thru butter. Of course, I had on my AO Safety half mask respirator and goggles, but I could still smell burning fiberglass a bit. Next I have to bevel the existing edge...

    Rubber mounts source

On one of the online parts sources I see the shock mounts and upper and lower drive shaft housing mounts are no longer available. Is there a source for NOS parts? Homemade or substitutes?

    Vintage-looking deck hardware?

I talked with a local re-chroming shop and I would rather not pay the hundreds of dollars it would take to refurbish/rechrome my original cleats and bow light made of pot metal. Are there any manufacturers that sell vinage/classic-looking hardware? I am unimpressed by the big-box boat store...

    Flipping the boat

Soon I want to get to the bottom paint and I'm planning now for that. I would like to flip it over with the deck attached but the total weight even with everything stripped off will be 700 pounds or so. I have a 1 ton engine hoist that I used to get the outboard motor off, and I'm thinking I can...
