I see there is a fuse block on the solenoid for the hydraulic trim motor/pump for the stern drive. can't find any markings on it, would like to know the amp rating. might upgrade it to something new. or at least get some sort of spare.
thanks
just received my new perma-lubed gimbal bearing for my mc-1/pre-alpha 1979 outdrive that my 470 bolts up to. the engine was out of the boat, but has been re-installed. i already had a new gimbal bearing installed, aligned the engine up to it, but had to make a big adjustment to the engine to...
This is a set of pictures of the upper end of the front motor mount.
They show:
the adjusting bolt
adjusting bolt with sleeve
adjusting bolt with sleeve and fiber washer

the spacer is holding the steel washer up off of the fiber washer
and that doesn't...
i'm replacing the exhaust elbow on my '79 merc 470 (serial number comes up '80, but boat hin is '79). i found that there's an o-ring that seals the elbow to the transom plate. i can't find it in a parts diagram. must be looking in the wrong spot. if you know the part number, or better yet...
i know they're 7/16" fine thread. i'm going with grade 8. the engine project got moved from one garage to another and the nuts and washers (among other things) are lost. are they plain nuts or self lockers? plain washers or lockers, or both?

Looking for some help from someone that has experience with these engines. I took my leaky oil pan off and have found the flange to be dimpled up towards the engine block at each bolt hole. Like would happen if you installed a really hard gasket and really torqued the bolts down tight. Or up...
the engine has been out of the boat for a couple years. it's been in a garage with the oil pan off and a few cloth painter's cloths covering it. i'm going to replace all hoses and gaskets. took the valve cover off and found some rust (old and wet with oil) on some of the rocker arms. i want...

I replaced the bellows, and now I have a leak. I've pulled the engine (470) in order to do some other work. I trailered the boat into the water to see if I could figure out where the water is coming from. It's puddling in the bottom of the outdrive in the area where the hydraulic lines for...
I'll be pulling the engine in the next couple weeks to replace the oil pan gasket and scrub the bilge. Probably install another in hull transducer since I'll have the access to it. And a bilge pump sensor/switch. Anything else to do in that area?
Might pull the fuel tank too, need to scrub...
1980 Merc 470, I've got an oily bilge. I found a bad valve cover gasket and replaced that. Now I'm looking around with a mirror and find most of the oil pan bolts have a drop of oil hanging from it. Is if worth pulling the engine to replace the pan gasket?

put the boat in the water today and there's a leak. Small.... but still a leak. I think it's in the exhaust bellows because 1. it was the hardest to do, 2. after taking the outdrive off the u-joint bellows didn't seem to have any water in it 3. after taking the outdrive off the exhaust bellows...
Re: Small hole in outdrive. What is this? 1984 mercruiser
is this a gravity drain weep hole? Or is there supposed to be water coming out under pressure? A pic of a boat on the muffs, not mine.
