What is the consensus in regard to removing the fuel line after a day's fishing and trailering the boat home? What is the harm in not removing the fuel line?

I think it is a 73,74 or 75 Johnson Sailmaster 8 hp with long shaft. Is the kill switch located at the end of the handle or tiller? If so, there is no movement in the button. Any help would be appreciated.
