I've got a 260HP / Alpha One outdrive combination and installed a used Faria gauge package some time ago. Long story short, my tach trys to register RPM up to 1000 and gets stuck. I am sure the wiring is correct. Can the Faria tach be opened up to do a visual of the internals? Thanks in advance.
I will be doing sea trials in the spring with my CVX18. I haven't had it out since I bought her this fall. The boat came with a 21P stainless prop. I am assuming this a good prop for out of the hole but not for top end speed. Is this what I should expect? Do you think over revving will be an...
Had a warm day here in Dallas on Tuesday and decided to swap my gauges with some Faria's purchased on Craigslist ($40.00 for the whole set!). You can read them better and they have better back lighting. They look better as well!

Just got my 87 Glastron Carlson CVX-18 running after it had been sitting for about 7-8 years. Lot's of slag/rust exiting the exhaust, but finally cleared up after running for about 40 minutes. No leaks, internal or external, to note after running. Engine maintains a solid 160 degree water temp...
OK, finally got all my wiring sqared away after hull and interior work. The outdrive has remained in the "up" position since I bought the boat about 5 weeks ago and am presuming it has been in that position since at least 2003 based on last registration. Have a new battery. Trim system will...
I wasn't happy with the outcome of the original detail job, still a lot of haze in the gel coat. I picked up some 3M super duty compound and really went to town with the buffer with a lambs wool pad and got all the haze removed from the gel coat. I had to concentrate on small areas (18" by 6")...
1987 CVX 18 (Glastron/Carlson). Removed the fuel cell yesterday. Boat has not been registered since 03'. Need to clean the cell, about 5 gallons of nasty old fuel remaining (good thing!, 27 gallon tank!). What is the best way to clean the cell. It is aluminum. Should I clean the sender unit...
OK. For starters, I am new to the I/O family and need to get a few things straight in my head. I dragged home another project last week (divorce proceeding to follow, I'm sure!). It's an old Glastron/Carlson CVX18 with about 600 hours on it. It was at an estate sale here in Dallas. The last time...
No sooner did I finish the 66 Whaler and another sweet deal happened! I was on Craigslist last Saturday surfing the boating section, did a refresh on the computer and up popped an add for a ski boat at an estate sale. I gave the number a call and the lady who answered was in charge of selling...
I finally got the rail I wanted and got it installed this morning! Semi rigid vinyl with a black insert. It's a TACO rub rail. It took about 3.5 hours including the modification of the rail for the bow light assy and finish out at the transom. Good product. She's definitely looking better with...
OK, here is the set up. Bare Hull - 850 lbs, console - 60 lbs, battery (installed fwd in under console)- 20 lbs, 10 gallons of fuel (two, 6 gallon tanks placed aft, port and starboard) - 65 lbs. No RPS seat and the railings and rub rail have not been installed yet. Engine, 1975 Johnson 70HP with...
First off, the outboard runs great! The old girl has a top speed of 38 MPH at full throttle (5600 RPM), no complaints! I am concerned about the charge voltage (15.5 indicated on the voltmeter installed in the center console). It seems a bit high and is causing issues with my radio (too high a...
OK, took the Whaler out for sea trials yesterday (66 Whaler Sakonnet. The engine ran great through out the power band! I am a bit concerned about fuel usage. What is the average fuel burn at full throttle for this engine used on this type craft? I travelled about 12 miles total and burned about...
Sea Trials today! Still need a seat, aft decals, rub rail and to install the aft port and starboard SS railings! Almost 3 months of work....too much to list (lets just say everything was needed)! Thanks for all the good info.
