You mean the weight of the whole piston and connecting rod. If they are the same, I could use the whole assembly to my 87 powerhead. If not the same, what is the problem of it? Do I need additional oil holes?
I have one bad 1987 piston and I have a good used 1978 9.9 hp piston. I want to swap it to my power head. What I see the different is the connecting rod cap on old version has one oil hole vs new version has 3 oil holes. I don't want to swap the connecting rod but could I use the older version...
Yes, you are right! too much work for it. I have study the part list and the crankshaft are the same so using the same lower unit but as other said" recoil and other things are different. So I am focus on looking for a used 77-92 powerhead or a used out 9.9/15. Thanks all for the inputs.
Just need a quick advice! I have 1991 15 hp low compression powerhead. I found a good 1993 9.9/15 hp power head with 150/145 psi of compression. Could I be able to swap it on my outboard? If not what is the show stopper?
I got a low compression (50 psi) on both cylinders of 1988 15HP Johnson.
It turn out the keyway got damaged. I have tried to get it out different way but I could not.
At first I thought the cylinder got scored but upon removing the head the cylinder wall still look good. So I removed the...
Watching the internet disencourage me (Amature) to go this proceedure. Since I needs a fixture to press the pin out of the old piston and to press it in a new piston (a chance to distort the new piston). Also the piston needs to be pre-heated up to what temp??? and the pin need to be frozen at...
So what is your suggestion? Put a new piston and new ring? The problem is that is is hard to swap the piston rod to new piston
I appreciate your input: I see a couple well know youtube channels, they just put new rings on the good used piston and hone the cylinders out.
Option #1: could I get...
My 1991 15Hp Evinrude has top cylinder 65-70psi and bottom cylinder 90 psi. I remove the head and inspect the cylinder, there is long mark on top cylinder so it explains why top cylinder has a low compression reading. So I decide to give it quick rebuild. Here is my plan: get a good used block...
Yes, I never think about let it run after dark to see where the spark coming. It is very dangerous if the leaking gas and open spark somewhere on the motor.
