Any marine electrical control brands to avoid?

I recommend Blue Sea Systems. They’re all I use and most mechanics I talk to recommend them. Chris

Adding back lighting to a switch panel

Haven’t been able to do a write up but what I did was drill some small holes for 3mm LEDs above the switches and used part of the plastic packaging from the switch box and mounted some 10mm LEDs in that to light up the labels.

Rebuilding only 1 side of the power head

For discussion sake the cylinder walls are good and one piston dropped the rings from running lean or running hot. No boring needed on any cylinder. nothing being ingested to cause mechanical damage. Chris

Rebuilding only 1 side of the power head

Just wanted to get everyone's opinion on this, just curious of the general consensus. Engine is 2 stroke with no oil injection If you tear down say the cylinders on the right side of an outboard and replace pistons and rings but do gaskets all the way around. Compression is right at the upper...

Adding back lighting to a switch panel

I figured out a solution and will post a short write up later when I can take a few more pictures. Chris

    2003 115 4-stroke bogs down

I would run a can of seafoam, B12, Lucas or some other fuel system cleaner through it while it idles, may or may not fix the problem but will definitely help. I'll look up the specs on it if I can when I get to work in a little bit. Chris

Adding back lighting to a switch panel

Has anyone ever added back lighting to the Blue Sea Systems WeatherDeck® 12V DC Waterproof Switch Panel - 8 Position #4309 panel. Its listed as a switch panel only and it comes prewired but I would like to make the labels light up at night

    1994 Johnson 88 SPL issues

This is my first 2 stroke outboard. Doesn't sound right to me and seems like its not running right. Revs quick which is good has good water discharge. But its hard to start at times and sometimes dies when going into gear, mostly when I'm on the lake with it. Once it gear it runs alright most of...

    Prop questions

I have a 1994 Sprint 262 with a 94 Johnson 2 stroke 88hp. Currently has a 3 blade 19P prop and was wanting to switch to a 4 blade and maybe go up to a 21P or should I stay with a 19P to achieve a little more lift out of the hole and top speed? I think I read where I should not be revving over 5K...

    1994 Johnson88HP 2 stroke tachometer help

My tachometer is not working and I am not familiar with how tachs are wired to outboard motors. What my gauge is doing is not showing any reading when running but when I shut it down it registers 1,000 rpm. Any ideas on what to check first or have a wiring schematic/diagram? Chris

2 Questions - ID and porpoising

Can y'all Help me ID this boat? I know its a 94 Sprint Bass boat and its 16' 3" according to the title. It has an 88hp johnson 2 stroke but hull is rated for 90hp. Second question is how do I stop it from porpoising? It runs great up to 23 mph or so any higher and it starts to porpoise really...

Can y'all help me identify this boat?

It says kingfisher on the sides. Somebody is going to give it to me for free as it was abandoned in the storage area of where I live. I don't know the size, year or anything about it. Transom feels/sounds solid. I know it will need some work to get it back into a lake ready state. I have plans...

Need an explanation of rpm behavior

My background is all Automotive. I don't quite understand how increasing pitch would cause the motor to drop rpms. To my understanding, a motor is going say 6,000 rpm with say a 19p prop. The motor is going to rev 6,000 rpm all the time its not going to know that the prop pitch changed. So how...
