    Merc 4.3 Quench Distance

@Tail_Gunner Im a pathological procrastinator, it is a notch above tinkeritis syndrome lol , i dont think it is going to be a monster at anything lol just more torque to pull as many skiers at once as i can. I dont have a stock 8 bolt manifold , im looking for used now , so i might get...

    Merc 4.3 Quench Distance

Thanks for your input gents... So I have ordered a 160* stat and electric choke that will hopefully deal with the carbon deposits in the future , will re-calibrate the weber carb for vortec head and intake also. So about the quench distance , I am really stuck between a rock and a hard place ...

    Merc 4.3 Quench Distance

@Lou C thanks for your insight, the pictures may be misleading.. the top of the pistons are most certainly a black coating that is flaking off, i can take it off with my fingernail. Maybe it is there because of long idle time before storage, however is not refelcted on the plug?? Should I opt...

    Merc 4.3 Quench Distance

This amount of carbon flaking off normal? Would the exhaust valve seat cleaned itself up on its own and what would be the cause of this? With those flat top at .045 quench it would be at 10:1 if i have it decked, is this ok on 91? Sorry about all the questions? Thks again

    Merc 4.3 Quench Distance

Well tore it apart last night, above are the pictures, checked compression before taking it apart , it was cold and has not run since august so probably not much oil on cylinder walls got between 158 to 170psi on all but #2 @ 110 psi ..... I was expecting a broken ring or something such , what I...

    Merc 4.3 Quench Distance

Thanks for your input , @Bondo I have pulled them but to the untrained eye it is entirely possible I did not notice any signs of detonation, they just looked golden brown to me which I was happy with, I will pull the heads off tomorrow the pistons will tell the real story, I can show pictures...

    Merc 4.3 Quench Distance

So , here's the deal , I have a merc 4.3 with 4bbl , fresh rebuild last year .030 over , .039 gasket , deck height is stock , so would of been 0.025 with stock pistons but now I had rebuilder pistons in it that I had realized after the fact had a compression distance of 1.548 as opposed to 1.56...

    Merc 4.3 Vortec Conversion

Thanks for the reply guys , so I take it the edelbrock eletric choke and calibration kit will work on my weber 4 bbl? Same kits as for the edelbrock 1409?

    Merc 4.3 Vortec Conversion

Hi, I have seen many posts about head upgrade from non vortec to vortec , however I could not find any mention of divorce choke replacement. I have the 1993 4.3 LX with weber 4bbl carb, I have a complete set of vortec heads casting #140 on standby. I was going to order a edelbrock p/n 2114...

Alpha one gen 2 shimming tools

Tried searching for dimensions of shimming tools for 1993 alpha one gen 2 sn 0f168027 to no avail , would anyone have precision measurements of those by any chance ? Seems pretty stiff $$$for something I can make on the lathe... I know you can use compound to view and duplicate gear pattern but...

    Merc 4.3 CR and Quench

@Scott Danforth Thanks for the insight will read up on that , lets assume for the purpose of discussion that I have 64cc heads, and a stock quench of .064 @ 9.3:1 with dish tops. This motor has been historically reliable on regular gas. ..At a new .076 quench and 9.4:1 should I worry about...

    Merc 4.3 CR and Quench

Cannot see the casting number as everything is assembled and it looks like i may have to remove the exhaust riser to remove the valve covers. 12 Bolt manifold and definitely NOT the kidney shaped chamber. 4.3LX without a doubt the non vortec.

    Merc 4.3 CR and Quench

I did not actually measure head volume an I am now thinking the non vortec may be 64cc as well (is this possible? I am certain I had read that non vortec were 76cc?). |The engine number is 0F118521. This would mean stock CR at 9.3:1 at .025 deck and -9.2cc dish volume 4.000 bore .039 gasket...
