What is the correct shifter for a 1974 50hp evinrude

have purchased a 1974 50hp evinrude. It came with an OMC shifter that is not correct. When you shift it forward , the motor goes into reverse and vice versa. I think this shifter is for 1979 and newer.
Can anyone tell me the correct shifter. A photo would be even better.

All the control boxes are pretty much interchangeable. There must be something else going on.

Does the throttle advance correctly, all the way to WOT?

could you possible have a left hand prop on a right hand engine or vise versa. i can't immagine someone having a pair of 50's on a boat.

Just found out that in 1974 there was 1 model 50hp that did indeed have a different config for F-N-R. I happen to have it. Will either have to Jury rig, or can spend $220 for a new old stock shifter.

Something is amiss here and just does not jive.Can you post a model number ? The contols changed in 1978,but I remember it as just a wiring change.
