    Default Sticky throttle 1998 Evinrude

    Hi all,
    I have a 1998 175 EXECD Evinrude Oceanpro and I have a problem with a sticky throttle.

I have replaced the throttle and shift cable and have just installed a new BRP control box and the throttle is still a bit sticky in the last 30% of the lever travel.

I have taken the engine cover off and looked at all of the carburetor linkages and timing advance lever and have narrowed down the issue to a small short plastic bearing that moves the timing lever at the top of the motor that advances the timing and the tall thin plastic bearing on the carb actuating arm. Both of these bearings move or are moved by a piece of curved plastic.

Has anybody heard of this or these parts causing an issue? I use this motor on a 17ft ski boat and it is increasingly frustrating trying to get a smooth change in revs when a skier is behind me.

Any help will be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks.

If you disconnect the throttle cable at the motor and work the motor linkage manually, does it stick? Also try working the controls while disconnected, do they still stick?

Do you have any severe bends in your cables routing?

    Hi DargelJohn
The linkage is a little sticky (not smooth) around the timing advance and throtte linkage arms.

The cables are new and are routed with a large smooth curve in the transom.
    Thanks

You might try hitting all your linkage joints with some WD-40. Old grease will cause these kinds of issues. Good Luck
