    Default stator/tach 225 evinrude

My tach is shot..i get no reading at all, , it appears that my stator/rectafier is charging the batteries as it should..honestly i think my gauge just stoped working..it was original from 1986....i have a new/used gauge but im not sure how to set it...I believe that my 1986 225 hp evinrude has a 12 pole stator and thus should be set at 6p on the tach...can anyone confirm that my engine does haf a 12 pole stator...thanks....i cannot find this info anywhere
