I have a 1980 25hp evinrude, and i've done a carb kit, changed the power pack, coils, spark pluge, impeller, ect. It was running fine and then i did all this stuff, to find out it was a power pack issue so it takes even more effort to start my engine now and every time i need to restart i have to choke it, a problem i never had before. I went from 3-5 pulls on cold start to 15+ and from 1 pull on restart to re-choking and 3-5 pulls. What do i need to re-adjust?
Sounds like a real pita. I would redo the carb. cleaning. It is not uncommon to hear people have to do them more than once to get them clean. Then adjust your needle/s and do a link and sync. Best of luck. Rick. PS. are you from Edmonton, Alberta?
Okay sounds good. Could my float not be letting in enough fuel? And refresh me on what a link and sync is again or direct me to a web site for me to read? And yes i am from edmonton alberta
Float- possible but by what your saying it would have to be stuck shut. More likely your carbs. slow speed circuit it plugged. Put a little fuel mix in a spray bottle and spray it in the carb. and then you'll know if the problem is the carb. not giving fuel. Let us know how the motor responds. If it doesn't start quicker then I would get a spark gap tester and check to see the spark will jump a 3/8 inch gap. Spark should be blue/white and very snappy. I'm toying with the idea of heading up there Thursday to go to Cabellas grand opening. Very envious that they built there. Never been to a Cabellas. Rick.
