I got a 1993, 200hp, GT V6 Johnson. About every time I go to use my boat, have troubles starting the first time. Seems to injuct way to mush oil before getting gas. After getting it started the first time, it runs fine the rest of the day. Can the oil injuction be block and mix my gas or anyone know whats my troubles? I have had two different boat shops work on it, but seems they don't know a lot about Johnson motors? Still does the same thing after its not used for a day or two. A person could not ask for it to run any better once it cleans itself out after getting started the first time for the day.
Welcome to iboats. The oil is mixed into the fuel. It won't pump oil unless the motor is running. When you prime the fuel system, you're actually pumping only gas. It sounds more like a float valve is leaking and allowing fuel to sneak by over time and flood the motor. Another possibility is the Primer solenoid. That could also have a slow leak and flood the motor when it's sitting. A lesser possibility is a torn diaphragm in the fuel pump. Gas can leak by and into the crankcase just like in the other scenarios. You are choking? Maybe over-choking? It's only choking when you push in on the key. Let off and it's no longer choking. I've had a few people not know about choking, or think that it's automatic once energized.
