removing cover / choke knob on Evinrude E3

I have a 3 HP evinrude E3 motor, about 1997. I want to access the carburetor so have to remove the lower front cover. How do I get the choke / gas knob off so I can remove the cover? I don't want to break the knob or controls.
Also, looks like I will have to unbolt the stop button.

OK I got it -- the knob pulls straight out. I had to use a thin screwdriver on the connection to help it along...

The stop switch can be removed behind the panel, it clips in. Watch you don't lose the little red button after you separate the switch from the panel button.

This engine looks impossible to work on... I'l be looking for another, perhaps an older, simpler one.
