Default Quick help with float - please!

Rebuilding my carbs...again. Float bowls were warped so I ordered new and also went ahead and got the OMC rebuild kits. Previous kits were paper gaskets and I wanted original for peace of mind.

Anyway, new kits came with new floats. But...they are WAY off when I install them and need to come down about 1/8". I'm not sure I want to bend them that far. I still have the originals on hand and they sit perfect. So.....should I use the new and adjust, or just use the originals?

If I use the new, what is the best way to adjust the height on these? Do I just bend them down?

Thanks for any help you can offer!!!

Isn't there a tab that you bend to set the float level?

There is a tab on the back of the float that could be adjusted to change the drop, but I'm working on getting the height set = the measurement that should be level with the top of the gasket +- 1/32 when held upside down.

I'm within the drop specs, but the height is too high...

The height should be measured from the top of the gasket, not the top of the body with no gasket installed, correct?

I have a OEM manual, but it's not clear.

Alright...I used the new ones, carefully bent them down right where the float meets the metal so they were level all around. They seem dead on maybe just slightly high in front which I read is just where you want them. Also bent the tab outwards so the drop would fall around 1". I measured from the top of the gasket to the bottom of the float at the front for both drop and height. OEM manual says within 1/32 when measured from 'gasket surface' for the height. Previous step in the manul says to install the gasket, so I'm assuming the measurement is from there.

If I did anything wrong, please let me know.

    Thanks!

You sure you got 'em in there right side up?
    It's all about the tools.

yep...they're in the right. I didn't have to bend them much, I just thought they would be closer out of the package. I guessed 1/8 too high earlier, but they were probably a little less than that. After reading the manual carefully it says to measure from the gasket surface, which took up about half of it and a small even bend brought them withing the 1/32 tolerance. Out of the package they were sitting 'nose' up too much so I just leveled them. Blow test seems to work as well.

They are sitting nearly dead level, perhaps a very small fraction higher on the front end of the float.

Guess I'll know when I run it tomorrow. Wish me luck...I really don't want to tell the wife I've got another few days in the garage. The kids are wearing her out and we're ready to get back on the water.
