Default Old 2 stroke 55 evinrude no serial # to go off of Please Help

I recently purchased a boat and motor, i need to id the motor to get some parts. The motor has three carbs and and most of the part numbers start with 318..., there is a frost plug on the top it says (co573152). All i know for sure is it is a 55 evinrude. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

There is not a metal tag on the transom with the model and serial number on it? is the motor an older looking or newer looking model? also are you positive it's a 55HP? in the book all the 55's from 73-90 were two cylinders, I don't know if they became 3-cylinders starting in the 90's

I would guess your engine to be a 1969, with a push-button shift, and a single throttle cable to the engine.

I am posative its a 55, and it has three carbs. The throttle control has a push button to go from forward, nuetral, reverse. When i was searching on the net I found out that it could be either a 68-69, or then it jumps to 76-79. Does the push button shift meen its a 60's?

I forgot they had the 3 cyl. in 68. The 3cyl. was 55 HP in 68, and 69. It jumped to 60 HP in 1970, so your engine was one of those two years. The push-button, or hydro-electric shift was gone after 1972. The Johnson engine did not use push-button, they used a single lever control with the shift switch inside the control box. Your engine is the same, for all practical purposes, those two years.

Another question, how would i go about pin-pointing it down to the exact model? according to what ive read they made two models in 68 and two in 69,I would like to pick up the manuals for that specific model if I can. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks
