    Default need help tilt problem evinrude 1979

    i have a 115 hp evinrude model 1979 and have motor at half tilt and motor gave out how can i lift up to reach motor to get it off????? is there a bypass i need to lift so to lock it up!!!

    look on the starboard (right) transom bracket toward the bottom.........

    there should be an access hole with a flat head screw and a snap ring inside.

    stand clear of the eng when you turn this screw as the eng may drop fast.

    only turn the screw out around 1 to 1.5 turns or so............... you dont want to damage the threads on the snap ring...and no reason to remove the screw only loosen it.

    if you need help on how to remove the tilt/trim unit just ask there are lots of knowledgeable people on here.

    but before you go to those extremes you can check the connections for corrosion and make sure the batt is fully charged.

    also if you have multiple switches unhook one at a time to see if one is causing a short.

    does the motor make any sounds at all?........clicking from the bilge area or anything?

    i got the engine down with the right nut of motor now i need to lift manually how do i do this is this a one man operation or two man i need to take off the tilt motor i know it is bad its a two wire i need to replace ineed it to tilt so i can get to the tilt motor engine is blocking it right now
