Default Model 70873C 1978 Evinrude 70 HP Water Inlet Screen

I need to replace the Screen and check the Impeller. It appears the Driveshaft slips out of the Spline in the Parts Diagram. After removing the bolts, what else is internal that I must disconnect> Like the Shifter???
    Pictures and diagrams would help.
    Thanks

Shift rod disconnects below the lower carburetor. A long socket extension and swivel socket works. 4 small bolts, one big bolt, and another bolt accessed by removing the trim tab removes the lower unit. Removing the water pump gets you to the screen

Default Inlet water screen evinrude model 70873c-70 hp, 1978

The parts diagram and Clymer's maintenance manual have confused me regarding replacing this screen, (which is not mentioned in Clymer's manual).
    Among instructions:
    1. On inline engine electric start-remove Starter.
    2. Remove Shift Rod? Looks like it will not pass out bottom.
3 Is the Shift Rod jointed in the Lower Unit someplace?
    Anyone have any shortcuts?

    Thanks Supreme Mariner.
It looks like another J/E Design Snafu. No easy way out to change this $5.00 part.
I wonder what other damage and replacements will occur getting to this Screen?

The bolt you need to remove is under bottom carb on port side. Lower will then drop down, the screen is under the water pump assy. You will see it down in a pocket after the impellor and plate are removed. On the outside of the screen on bothe side's, squeeze the screen gently in and push up,then pick it out through the top. You need the OMC manual for your year motor.

This is an "all water" motor, both Salt and Fresh.
