I have a 1966 johnson mq 12a, it"s a back up motor that I have pressed into service, it"s a long shaft, my question is can it be made into a short shaft? by the way whats the a stand for in the model#? it"s a 9.5hp. thanks, mike
You can convert it you will need a new drive shaft, lower unit shift shaft and water tube. It is easier and mostly cheaper to find a short shaft 9 1/2 to use as a donor / parts motor or just have two of them that run. The A is a model suffix.
Those Ottawa folk are always right! Easier to get a short shaft LU. Also, I have the pdf parts manual if you want it. If yes, pm me your email address and model #.
