I have been working on my 1950 QD-11 10hp Sea Hourse and with the help of the Operating Instructions I got from iboats, I have been able to do some long past due general maintenance but got stumped on one item:
The manual says that the magneto oiler felt needs 4-5 drops of oil every year to function properly. The only thing the manual says about how to do this is "See your Johnson Service Center".
This probably worked OK in 1950, but not in 2008.
Any tips on how to perform this annual maintenance item myself????
Just what it says. 4or 5 drops of light oil on the felt pad every year! Most important not to overdo it because you don't want to get oil on the breaker contact surfaces. Err on the side of caution. It is just to provde a slight film of oil on the cam. I reckon even that much oil could be a bit much.
