I have a 1999 johnson 9.9 motor. It has good spark plugs and clean carburetor and runs fine when it cranks. The problem is it doesnt always crank on first or second pull. A friend of mine who is familar with boat motors cranks it every single time and says there is nothing wrong with it, he said its just a sequence you have to figure out and play with it. Is there something I am missing, this is my first motor I have ever owned. Also is there electric starts you can put on this motor because I could not find one. Thanks for your help
Sometimes it is important to use the proper starting sequence, can your friend show you how he does it?
Engines that year show an electric starter, it could cost quite a bit to convert yours to electric start.
he has showed me but every time I get out in the water it never will work for me. I can run it for 20 minutes and cut it off and then not be able to start again
I think I would try about 1/4 throttle and choke it, pull it a couple of times and see if it tries to start, may only have to choke it for a pull or two.
