Have a manual start johnson 9.9. Then aquired a elec start evinrude 9.9. Put the starter on the johnson hooked cables directly to starter, there was a circuit board or something between battery and starter on the evinrude.. Any way I hooked cables directly to starter and left the circuit board out.. The starter appears to be turning in reverse .. So i gues what i'm asking is it necessary to have the circuit board in there ? Or is there another reason it would be trying to turn backwards?
I believe the starter will run opposite direction if the +cable is on the - connection and the -then is on the+. Did you maybe hook the leads on backwards? What year model you have both of them?
