ignition problem 1985 8 hp johnson

currently working on this 1985 8 john. will start and run on top cylinder , when i go to attach orange wire from
powerpack to lower coil it will spark and shut off as soon as it touches. just like it was a kill switch , the coils have two terminals one for the plug wire and one from the powerpack. have switched coils from top to bottom
no change. i'm baffeled, any help greatly appreciated

The wire's from the pak are tan-blue, top coil, tan-grn, bottom coil. Check voltage from both these wire's. You must also check trigger voltage going into the pak.
