Did my 150 Johnson,and the instuctions came in the box with the rebuild kit.

all I got was impeller
remove lower unit bolts, slide lower unit down about 1/2 inch, in crack you will see shift coupling, remove bottom bolt.

Well still no luck. Took the four bolts out , got lower unit to drop down removed bottom linkage bolt, dropped into cavity tried and tried to get unit to come on down--------------------no luck. Bought telescoping magnet, retrieved bolt and put back together. What did I miss............

You missed the clip near the top of the driveshaft (#8 in the diagram).
Try this: take the plugs out so that you can turn the flywheel easily and when you have everything else loose, turn the flywheel until the pin releases.

No, you have to do what I said.
Yea, the 6hp's have a slot in the upper part of the exhaust housing, that will let the driveshaft drop down, once the pin in the shafts mates up. Just turn the flywheel slowly by hand and keep your other hand on the lower unit. Once pin lines up with those slots, you can pull your lower unit down. Don't force it, or you'll bend the pin and you'll have to replace it.![]()
