Default evinrude 40 Lark selectronic shift

I'm trying to by a motor off this guy. He said it's an older model but he can't find the numbers to give me so i can look it up. All he can tell me is it's an evinrude 40 lark with selectronic shift.

Can you help me tell him where to look for the numbers so i can identify this motor?

It's "Selectric" shift. Some people love them and some people hate them. Many of the haters don't understand them. Personally, I like them. They do develop problems, but so do the mechanical shift ones. The most common problem with the Selectric is the shift switch in the remote control. They are hard to find and expensive when you do find one. The Selectric does require special oil in the lower unit. Premium Blend, from a dealer.

By the way, the remote control and wiring harness are part of the motor. Make sure you get the whole thing. That stuff is worth as much as the motor.

Remote control: The boxy thing with the throttle lever and the push buttons to shift it.

Wiring harness: A thick electrical cable coming from the motor, goes to a wiring junction box on many, (depending on year) then a long cable to go forward to the instrument panel on the dashboard. Includes the key switch, an ammeter, maybe a choke switch, maybe a warning light. Varies by year.

The junction box includes the starter solonoid and voltage regulator.

The motor is useless without this stuff.

Oh! Never heard it called a remote control switch, just control box.
I didn't know if the wiring harness was something special for selectric shift.

Did you say key? What would that do??(just kidding) I really do appreciate you putting up with me.

by the way, he found the model and sr#

That's a 1970. By the way, what does a person do with a boat in Liberal anyway? Run it in the Arkansas River? Hey, just kidding. My son used to live in Garden City, now Colby.

It's the cimmeron river, and we pull it with a tractor cuz there ain't no water in it.

I growed up in Liberal and after i got educated (registered nurse), I moved and ended up in a Dallas suburb. Now I go to Lake Louisville with dhath and jasonh.

By the way you should of heard of Holcomb Ks. ("In cold blood") just west of GC. I installed cable tv for a summer there. Did you ever visit the GC zoo? Nice

I suppose I've been to Holcomb, but didn't realize it was famous for anything. Yeah, I get to the GC zoo at least a couple of times a year. It is really amazing, the rare and endangered animals they have there for such a small town. One of the yearly visits is at Christmas time. DANG! it's cold out there for this Florida boy.
