Evinrude 1980 140hp won't start in Neutral

Hey guys so after some hard work I got my engine to start, I have a new problem though. I start the engine by pulling on my single lever control and locking it in neutral and pushing it to full. I then proceed to start the engine, it starts up but then as i start to lower the lever( which lowers the RPM's) it dies out. I keep doing this and doing this but i can't get the engine to keep running under 1500 rpm, if I bring it under that it stalls out. Can anyone help me out with this situation please?

I don't think you have a control issue, I think you still have engine issues.

The engine will not idle if it is not making power on all four cylinders.

It could be timing.

Did you perform the "Link and Synch"?

Are your spark plug wires on correctly?

My spark plugs and and everything to do with combustion is great, i still haven't done the timing, what is a "Link and Synch"?

Did you overhaul the carbs by completely disassembling and cleaning them? If not, they may be part of your idling issue. If the engine has been sitting for a long time, it is possible that the idle circuits may be plugged with dried fuel.

do you have a Evinrude oem service manual for that praticular motor? until the carbs are completely cleaned, the timing properly set, the link and sinc is correct. it stands no chance of running correctly. have you check you compression since the rebuild? you have great advice, follow it, answer the questions, or you are wasting time and money.

hey guys so i got the motors timing done, thing is it still has the idling issue it definitely starts up better now that it is in perfect timing, and my carbs i had revbuilt awhile back so nothing is wrong there. The question i have is how do i do a link in sync, i have a service manual but my english isn't that great and i have trouble understanding. Can anyone tell me how to do a link and sync on a 140 hp 1980 evinrude motor or can direct me to a link that will tell me please.
