Default Evinrude 1962 Sportwin - Water pump lower bearing housing

    Hi all,

So trying to pull the water pump seal out of the lower seal housing of the water pump resulted in this:

    pump housing 1.jpg

    pump housing 2.jpg

    pump housing 3.jpg

My evinrude main dealer here in England is unable to get me one, I have all the other water pump parts new, so I guess my options are:

    1. attempt a repair with epoxy. Does anyone have any experience of doing this successfully? I'm not massively confident.

    2. Source a second-hand one. Any advice on which other years/HP use the same water pump so I can swap that part out.

    3. Import one, are they available in America? Couldn't find anything on iboats.

thanks in advance for any advice, this is my first attempt at restoring an outboard than ran really well up until last year. Ignition system is done, just the lower unit to fix and she should be back to her former glory.

    Thanks, Edd

    Hi,

Sorry it is a 10HP, model 10025A. I can find the water pump upper housing no problem, but its this lower seal case that eludes me.

    Thanks

1962 Sportwin is a 10hp. As far as that part goes, I wouldn't even attempt to fix it. Look in the "Top Secret File" in this forum and look under the slavage yards list. In that list of sources, you should easily be able to find a new or used one. I would advise you to get a new one, at all cost though, so you'll have good assurance of good service from your rebuild. The part number is 278004 Bearing Housing and Seal.

Based on the part number Zephyr gave, you can get a new one from marineengine.com for $80. They show one in stock

Unfortunately marineengine.com don't ship outside of the states! I contacted them regarding some other parts I was after but no joy. Does anyone know which other motors use the same water pump? I will see what salvage places I can find in england.

    Thanks guys

If we have to, edd_barker, one of us could purchase it and then you could pay us to ship it to you and you re-imburse us for the cost. Where there's a will, there's a way.

Thanks Zephyr, that's a kind offer, much appreciated. I will do my best to source one in the UK as otherwise I fear the costs are going to spiral, already spent far more than the motor is worth. I can't bear to give up on it though! Hoping I can find a second-hand unit in better shape than mine

I am 90% sure that 382292 (fits 9.5hp) will interchange. That should be easier to find. Of course, there is that other 10% uncertainity.
