Default Emergency help evinrude 140 1990

Motor started was idling to high so adjusted the throttle cable. Reatartwd and idled fine. Turned it off and now won't start. Any suggestions?

Your motor has QuikStart which advances the timing whenever you start the engine and keeps it advanced until the engine reaches running temperature or 1100 RPM. If the thermostats are not working properly, QuikStart can stay advanced, causing the engine to run too fast. QuikStart disables itself when the engine reaches +/- 1100 RPM so that it will settle down on its own if left alone if the adjustments are correct.

Try to get the Factory Service Manual for you motor and adjust the idle according to the linkage and synchronization instructions. Always set your idle to around 650 RPM in gear, warmed engine, under load, on the water.
