    Default electramatic shift lever

Hey guys, so i just got my new shift lever from the johnson dealer, but the new one has a bigger cam knob on it that doesn't fit in the shifter...???
the part number is 310700, my engine is the 63 40 HP electramatic. the lever looks exactly the same other than the round knob in the middle thats offset a bit and is connected to the end of the gas cable, its the start lever so you can give it gas without putting it into gear. could this be the wrong part? or maybe i have a different year shifter? i know the original part number is different, but in the description it said it was superseeded by this new one.

    any help is great
    thanks
