Carburetor Float Adjustment 1986 Johnson 150 HP

I installed the inlet needle, float, and hinge pin, and then inverted the carbureator body. My service manual says, with the float closed, the top edge of the float should be between but not touching the two notches on my OMC float gauge. I actually have the float gauge. My question is, do I bend the metal float arm beyond the needle and before the float to achieve the correct height? I understand I am not supposed to put pressure on the inlet needle when I do this.

Second question, after the above adjustment, I am to turn the carb right side up orientation and measure for the float to be 1" plus or minus 1/8" from the body. If it is not, I adjust the tab on the hinge pin.

Sounds like you have the procedure correct. You bend the arm beyond the needle for float level and the hing pin for float drop.
