Got motor running after determining battery was bad and then it will shift in to forward, speed up and slow down but wont go back in to neutral. Looked at cables right at entry into motor shroud / cover and the black cover on the shift cable is broken. Metal inner cable is still in tact BUT it doesnt seem to work correctly now. Reverse doesnt seem to work at all and again, it wont go back in to neutral unless I go back to motor and shift by hand. Did my shift cable break?
If so, where do I get a new one (iboats?)
How long for a 1979 Starcraft 16' SS (Do I need to measure)?
If not and the internal metal part is the actual part shifting, what should I test.
BOATS = trouble!
Thanks!

The only precious metal I buy in bulk is Aluminum (and starts with B)!
* The pyramidal top of the Washington Monument is 100 ounces of PURE aluminum which, at the time of purchase, was as expensive as silver. *
If I disconnect the shift cable I can shift it in to reverse and spinning the prop in reverse moves the flywheel, does not go in forward. I think gearcase is ok
NEW QUESTION: I measured from motor plug to bend in cable, 1.5ft, cable bend to bend to go down length of boat 2.5ft, bend to go down length of boat to controls 5.5ft = 9.5ft, do I order a 10ft or an 11ft? Why one or the other? Can it be too long??
ALSO - Do cables just break like this or did I have a bind and it broke when I shifted at the controls, likely?? Just wondering...
Thanks!
