Does the ball on a external tank have to be hard all the time while running? I have to pump it up ever so often. I let it go for a while and the motor slow until I pump up the ball. Is there a way to check if it is a fuel pump problem or a tank problem? The tank is plastic. I really don't know how old it is as I didnt' buy it new. The lines seem supple enough. The primer ball seems OK. I checked the cost of fuel pumps and just about died. Can they be rebuilt with relative success? I see kits are fairly cheap. Any help or suggestions ? Thanks

If there are no obvious fuel leaks (pump drawing air) between the fuel pump and the fuel supply, the fuel pump is failing. A repair kit should be available at your dealership.
