On a 83 Johnson 90, what makes the throttle return. Mine gets stuck and doesnt return to idle. I even tried adding a spring to pull back, thats helps but doesnt seem the best. I have replaced the throttle cable thinking it was sticking and that also helped a bit but not totally.
I dont know where the spring is...but you got to believe there is one there...maybe on the carblinkage...but try cleaning all the roller points and contact areas of all the throttle linkages.. and re greasing...
old drying and cranking grease can put drag on the linkages return
Are you saying you pull it back but it sticks at high throttle?
All the links are under spring tension, it takes force to manually open the butterfly's at the carb end.
Sounds like you're missing some parts or something isn't installed properly.
Time to invest in a factory manual and set it up right.
Look at the factory drawing on www.evinrude.com and see if they match the springs you have. You DO have return springs right?
try this link and look at part #88...it is a clock spring...it might have been taken down and not wound up enough when it was re-installed......which can be a pain to do sometimes
