Default 88 Evinrude 150XP Cooling System

Recently purchased XP150, ready to do normal service on it. Put muffs on it to flush after run. Steady stream on starboard side which indicates impellar working. Where is the "exhaust coolant" supposed to exit the motor? I noticed water coming out around the lower unit mounting area. Haven't worked on these for some time and the Seloc manuel refers more to the older models that misted thru the exhaust ports.

    Thanks,
    Jack

I believe that most of your water exits with the exhaust thru the hub of the prop. The telltale is there to show you that your water pump is working. If the water is coming from the base of the motor where it is attached to the lower unit you need to change the gasket there.
If I wanted your advice my wife would have told me to ask you for it.

Thanks, I'm going to take off the lower unit and probably
replace the impellar to know that it has been done recently.

I have an 89 XP-- it is thru hub exhaust, so much of it comes out of the prop hub, another source is out the vents along the sides of the lower unit. I may be wrong but if water is streaming out of the tell tale, there is likely reasonable water flow ocurring....although most will tell you that the impeller should be replaced every two yrs like you are planning-- one part that you don't want failing.
Look on e-bay for an OMC shop manual-- the difference between that and a SeLoc is like night and day for clarity and detailed instructions.

Thanks for your advice-- the seloc manual is very vague in directions. Changed the lower fluid yesterday and it needed it--- no water however which is a good thing. Any clues on the best way to get to the shift rod bolt??
Seloc said to remove the starter which doesn't appear to be the way to go with XP150. Looks like either shift/accel rods or lower carb??? Thanks again for any advice you can provide before I get the OMC Manual!!!!!!

The parts diagrams on the BRP site should help with the gearcase removal and with locating the shift rod connections.

    http://epc.brp.com/login.aspx?Return...ands=ej&lang=E

Note: If the black bar appears, click "remove this frame"
    before navigating the BRP site.

Anyway, once you have enlarged the "shift and throttle linkage" diagram, the screw labeled #3 is the one to remove.
