Howdy all, Last year I purchased a 17 ft Sea Sprite with a Johnson 120hp V4 outboard. The engine had a blown piston in cylinder #4 when I purchased it, due to the engine being over propped. I recently purchased a remanufactured powerhead to replace the blown one. I have experience in automotive engines as well as I/O's but this is my first time working on an outboard. I recently had all the carburetors rebuilt, purchased new thermostats, gasket set, spark plugs, raw water pump, new fuel pump to replace VRO ( want to go to pre-mix), new fuel line from the tank to the engine, is there anything that I'm missing??? I've heard alot about synchronization of the ignition timing with the carbs but the book that I have been reading says that I need a test wheel to do that because I have to run the engine at WOT in the water, where do I get a test wheel? Is there any way to do the same without a test weel while still doing it properly??? I was also told to run double the oil for the first 2 tanks while breaking in a new engine. Any other "new engine" breakin advice or reassembly advice anyone could offer?? Thanks.
