Angry "77" 85 hp johnson "javelin" starting inconsystancies (problem)

I BOUGHT A BOAT THAT THE FLOOR HAD ROTTED OUT SO I GOT IT PRETTY CHEAP I NEEDED THE MOTOR AND IT HAD ALOT OF EXTRAS I NEEDED. WHEN I WENT TO SEE IT THE GUY FIRED IT UP WHAT SEEM TO BE NORMALE IT RAN REALLY GOOD. HAD IT ON MY BOAT IN A COUPLE WEEKS I TRANSFERD THE REMOTE, THE STEERING, AND MOTOR, I FIRED IT UP IT RAN GOOD, I TOOK MY OLD GAS TANK OUT WHICH WAS A 20 GAL AND USED THE TANKS THAT CAME WITH THE BOAT 2 6 GAL. TANKS THEY WERE BOTH HALF FULL SO WITHOUT REALLY THINKING ABOUT IT I POURED ONE INTO THE OTHER AND OFF TO THE LAKE I WENT I LAUNCH THE BOAT AND IT WILL NOT START, TAKE IT HOME AND START WONDERING IF MAYBE ONE OF THE TANKS MAY HAVE BEEN CONTAMANATED SO I PULL CARBS DISASSEMBLE CLEAN THOUGHLEY, DUMP THE TANKS CLEAN THE SAME, GET GOOD OCTANE GAS AND THE BEST TWO STROKE OIL I CAN GET. PUT A CLEAR GAS ELEMENT FILTER AFTER THE SQUEEZE BULB, IT STARTED RIGHT UP RAN PERFECT IN FACT I HAD TO TURN THE IDLE DOWN JUST A VERY LITTLE, RAN IT FOR ABOUT A HALF HOUR STARTED IT AGAIN A COUPLE TIMES NO PROBLEMS. GET IT TO THE LAKE LAUNCH THE BOAT AND THE LITTLE WINCH WONT START AGAIN HAS ANYONE ELSE HAD THIS HAPPEN?B AND WHAT WAS THE RESOLVE, YOU GUYS ARE THE BEST!!!

Top secret files say compression, spark, fuel... then pee stream.

Cap's are for yelling. I have good visual hearing, thanks
It's almost beyond the point of bearable how torturous it is to try to have any dignity in being a Vikings fan..

I have a 76 85HP Javelin with a lovely attitude. The previous owner fired it right up and I could not make it run in my first 20 attempts.
    1. This engine is notorious for cold start. So, yours is just one of them.
    2. It will run perfect on the muffs and will be dead on the lake. The problem is the back pressure. So, try to start your engine in a barrel in your driveway.
    3. This engine gets flooded easily. If it is flooded, you need to turn over the engine several times to vent the gas out. By then, your battery is low and you cannot turn over the engine fast enough. Game over.
    4. In cold start, make sure your warm-up lever is all the way up. It will help the engine to start by …(skip a couple of technical paragraphs I don’t even understand).
My secret is to take off the cowling. Raise the warm-up lever all the way up. Make sure the mark, as pointed by the red arrow in the picture, is aligned with the center of the throttle cam roller. Press the bulb to firm, lift the choke switch, and turn the key. My engine usually does not fire up in the first attempt. It’s OK. In my second attempt, I do not lift the choke switch. Otherwise, the engine will get flooded. The second try usually can fire up the engine. Once it runs, lower the warm-up lever to reduce the speed.

Each time I went to the lake, I installed a set of dry spark plugs. I know her temper now.

    Happy boating!
