69 johnson 6 hp water pump

i just went out on the lake today and the motor was smoking alot and there was water coming out of the water pump. i need some help

When you say motor was smoking a lot, was it exhaust smoke or was the power head actually hot enough to smoke? Did the engine quit when the smoking going on?

there was alot of smoke and steam coming out of the exhaust there was actual steam cuz the water was boiling and the exhaust outlet was whistling but the motor ran fine the whole time

If there was steam coming out of exhaust I think I would pull the lower unit and replace water pump. If it is smoke maybe your gas/ oil mixture is to rich. Is this motor new to you?

there was no water coming out and i just got this motor a week ago

Put a water pump in it, check your thermostat, and mix your gas 50:1. Is the power head discolored from heat? Hopefully there is not any damage to powerhead. You might want to check compression also.

as stated above..that is a fine motor. I have had 2 same year and HP, and the one i am currently running will troll all day without issue. Good luck with it.
