Default '56 Johnson Javelin Full Throttle Issue

Hi. I'm having trouble with my '56 35HP Johnson Javelin. A little background info: It sat untouched for 6 years and when we got it running again it had several great hours on the water, maybe idled a little rough but would go to full power just fine. One day, it just wouldn't get to full power. After cruising along for 10 mins or so it finally opened up and ran fine for about 15 mins. We cut the engine for a little while and upon restarting, it had the same problem where it wouldn't get to full power. I'd say it was about 1/4 power. I thought it was a fuel mix problem so I took off the high speed fuel mix lever and turned it back and forth - now I've lost my spot. (could this be the problem?)

When we got it back home, we found out that one of the cylinders was not firing so the coils were replaced (with the help of the iboats experts - thanks!) and it sounded like it was running fine. Got it back on the river this evening and it is idling better and running a little faster at WOT, but it's still not quite up to speed. Maybe around 1/2 to 3/4 power. Any ideas?

Also - I just read that putting carb cleaner in a 2-stroke is a bad idea. It's been through around 3 gallons of gas with the cleaner - oops?

Thanks in advance for your help.

If you have the ignition fixed, I wuold look for a fuel problem. that engine has A pressurized fuel tank. Is the cap closed? Does it hold pressure?

Take a look at Joe Reeves post on how to set the low-speed and high-speed jets at http://forums.iboats.com/engine-frequently-asked-questions-faq/carb-needle-adjustments-asorted-carb-variations-joe-reeves-167352.html . Scroll down to the part (Carburetor Adjustments - Two Adjustable N/Vs)

Just wanted to give a quick thank you for your help! I got it back out on the water today and was able to set the carb. and get it back up to full power. Of course now I have 2 new problems to sort out (starter quit and the connection between the throttle and motor slips if the throttle isn't held at up at a 45* angle ) but I guess that's the name of the game.

Thank you thank you for all of your help!
