cant read the sticker in my engine were it says max rpm or rpm range
i am trying to change my prop for more performance i have a 13 p she turns 6000 15 p 5500 with 17 p 5000 rpm i like the incredible hole shot of the 13 p just afraid its turning to hard it runs max of 26 mph
17 p will turn 5000 is very slow out of the hole but she runs 30 mph just want some input on whats best for my engine
this is a flats boat so i need to plane on very skinny water all mph are gps
I had a 97 evinrude 50 and the rpm range was 45-55.
I've been told that running those smaller motors slightly over max isn't as hard on them as it would be running a big motor over max but that was just bar chat.
I've also been told that if you are gonna run them harder, increase you oil/fuel mix. Not like all the way to 40:1 but just add a little more, again bar talk.
I'm interested in what the pros say because I surely aint one!!
mine has the vro still connected but i mix the the gas tank 200 to 1 just as a liltle safety i use synthetic two stroke so i should get pretty good oil protection if thats the case im shure thats gotto be pretty close to 40 to 1 i also here running them near the max keeps the rings from building carbon and can actually keep the pistons cool but thats just bar talk too
Any pros out there with comments about going over max w/ the 50's??
I had a '97 50 that would turn approx 5800 rpms WOT
Now I have a '77 55 that turns close to 5000.
I miss the sound of her turning higher RPM's, in fact, when i put the new motor on I had to raise it a hole to get her turning 5. Before it was closer to 4, sounded weak as hell. I may have to rebuild the carbs on her.... She is older than me
